README
This repository contains sample data, sample code, and custom toolboxes to accompany the protocol “Protocol for mapping frequency-specific information transfer between cortical areas using ECoG and Granger causality” by Zeng, Zhou, Li, Hasegawa, and Tanigawa.
Repository Contents
– sample_data: This folder contains sample electrocorticography (ECoG) data recorded from the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and the inferior temporal cortex (ITC) of a macaque monkey. The data is provided in MATLAB format (.mat). Please refer to the protocol for detailed information about the experimental procedures and data preprocessing.
-sample_code: This folder contains example MATLAB scripts demonstrating the key steps of the protocol. These scripts allow for computing pairwise Granger causality, mapping spatial distributions, and identifying functional clusters via hierarchical clustering. These scripts are intended to be used in conjunction with the sample data and the custom toolboxes.
P1_GC_pw_calc.m: Pairwise spectral Granger causality computation pipeline
P2_Plot_GC_TC_and_Matrix.m: Time-course and connectivity matrix visualization
P3_Plot_GC_maps.m: Spatial topographical GC heatmap generation
P4_GC_Diff_Stat_and_Map.m: Statistical differential GC map generation
P5_GC_Cluster.m: Functional clustering analysis based on differential GC profiles
– toolbox: This folder contains custom MATLAB programs and necessary toolboxes required for running the sample code.
ECoG grid topography layout files (*.lay): LauraR.lay for 8×8 PFC and 8×16 ITC electrode arrays, used for all cortical spatial plotting in Figure 2–4.
preprocessing/: ECoG signal preprocessing pipeline (filtering, re-referencing, , et al.)
Note:
– The sample data provided is a subset of the full dataset used in the original study (Zhou et al., 2023).

– The sample code is for demonstration purposes and may need to be adapted for your own data.
– Please refer to the main protocol paper for detailed information about the methods, parameters, and interpretation of the results.
