A structured, georeferenced, citation-linked digital compilation of the stratigraphy of Pakistan: 363 geological units across 19 provinces, with ages, lithology, thickness, coordinates, fossils, stratigraphic contacts, constituent-unit membership, and per-fact source references — paired with a linked inventory of 27 geosites (geoheritage layer). Digitized and enriched from the published geological literature under a strict “no source, no fact” provenance model. Live resource: https://stratigraphy.pk
New in v4.2 (Deeper provenance): the evidence base grows to 240 registered sources (233 full-text), adding a run of Geological Bulletin of the Punjab University papers (1972–2007) and the Yaseen et al. (2019) Peshawar-Basin geoheritage study. New full-text enrichment lands on the Abbottabad Formation (Latif 1974 Cambrian age — Hyolithes/Chancelloria), Muslim Bagh Ophiolite (serpentinite-belt petrology and chromite), Mansehra Granite (associated pegmatites and veins), Nagarparkar Complex (Karai-gabbro geochemistry), Samana Suk and Chichali formations (microfacies, diagenesis and biostratigraphy), among others. Provenance now totals 1,270 source-attributed revision notes and 4,257 field-level citations over the audited network of 480 stratigraphic contacts and 106 constituent-unit links (0 dangling). The live resource additionally now surfaces these attributed notes per unit (a “Research notes” section) and renders each geosite’s sources. Geosite count is unchanged at 27 (the Nowshera Reef geosite gains the Yaseen et al. 2019 assessment).
From v4.1 (Geosite layer): the released archive now includes the geosite/geoheritage inventory as first-class data (geosites.json, geosites.csv): 27 geosites across 14 provinces, each classified by type and by scientific/educational/scenic/cultural/economic significance, with a conservation status and a recorded threat, and 46 site–unit links so every geological statement about a site traces back to cited stratigraphic units. The geosite layer is itself provenance-linked to the published geosite-assessment literature (Yaseen et al. 2021; Khan et al. 2026; Ghani et al. 2022). The source registry grows to 205 sources (201 full-text/primary), and provenance now totals 1,198 source-attributed revision notes. Also folds in the DiPietro & Pogue (2004) NW-Himalaya synthesis enrichment and the Ahmad et al. (2016) nummulitid biostratigraphy of the Kohat & Potwar basins (larger-benthic-foraminiferal zonation applied to the Kohat, Panoba and Shekhan formations).
From v4.0 (Fully Verified): the evidence base reaches the 200-source milestone — 201 registered
