About Jurnal Presipitasi
About Jurnal Presipitasi
Jurnal Presipitasi: Media Komunikasi dan Pengembangan Teknik Lingkungan — in English, a journal of communication and development in environmental engineering — is a peer-reviewed academic journal in environmental science and environmental engineering, published by the Environmental Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Diponegoro, in Semarang, Indonesia. It has been in continuous publication since 2006. Its print ISSN is 1907-817X and its electronic ISSN is 2550-0023, the ISSN carried by the Journals World record for this post (ID 32380). Its official short title is J. Presipitasi. Since volume 18, issue 1 (2021) the journal has published all articles in English; submissions in Bahasa Indonesia were accepted only until July 2021 and are declined at the initial stage after that date, a language change that marks the journal's deliberate move from a mainly national readership toward an international one.
That move has been matched by credential changes that the journal itself announced on its official site. The journal states that it is nationally accredited under Indonesia's ARJUNA national journal accreditation system and, in an announcement posted in July 2026, that it has been accredited as SINTA 1 — the top grade in the national Science and Technology Index — by the Directorate General of Science and Technology. In April 2026 the journal announced that it had been indexed in SCImago Journal Rank with an SJR of 0.138 for 2025, quartile Q4, describing that step, accurately, as a milestone in its international visibility and noting its recent Scopus indexing. The Journals World stored record, written earlier, already carried the Q4 categorisation that the SCImago announcement confirms, together with an h-index of 3 from its older template data. More recent counting systems give higher figures, as explained in the metrics section below, and the gap between them is a lesson in how quickly a rising journal outgrows older snapshots of itself.

Publisher: Universitas Diponegoro (Diponegoro University), through the Environmental Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering. Country: Indonesia. First published: 2006. Language: English for all articles since 2021 (earlier volumes include Bahasa Indonesia material). Frequency: three issues a year — March, July and November — with a stated maximum of 25 articles per issue, per the journal's own editorial policies. Peer review: single-blind (described by the journal as single anonymous review in its DOAJ record), at least two independent reviewers per manuscript, with the Editor-in-Chief making the final decision. Open access: fully open access; readers may read and download all full texts without charge. Licence: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0). Article processing charge: IDR 1,500,000 per accepted manuscript, per the journal's editorial policies and its DOAJ record, with a possible waiver for manuscripts that include a non-Indonesian author — authors must check the current policy, because the journal's listing pages and its policies page present the charge information in different places. Contact given by the university listing: presipitasi@live.undip.ac.id. Article identifiers: articles carry DOIs in the Diponegoro prefix, as in 10.14710/presipitasi.v18i2.241-253.
Publisher and Institutional Setting
Universitas Diponegoro is one of Indonesia's major public universities, based in Semarang, Central Java, and its engineering faculty's environmental engineering department is the journal's home. That setting shapes the journal's content in concrete ways. Semarang is a coastal city facing tidal flooding, land subsidence, drainage failure, waste pressure and industrial pollution — the classic problem set of Indonesian urban environmental engineering — and the journal's pages return repeatedly to drainage systems, wastewater, solid waste, air quality, groundwater and coastal and tropical development, often studied in Semarang and Central Java and then discussed in terms that travel to other Indonesian and tropical cities. A university-department journal of this kind is also a training and community institution: it gives Indonesian environmental researchers a reputable, accredited, English-language venue of their own, with the editorial office, reviewers and readership anchored in the same national research system that evaluates them.
The Journals World stored template printed a numeric publisher identifier, 4145, where the publisher name should appear; the site's taxonomy resolves that identifier to Diponegoro University, which matches the official journal sources, so the underlying data is right and only the older template display was garbled. No other stored-field conflict was found for this post: country (Indonesia), category (Q4, now confirmed by the journal's own SCImago announcement) and the electronic ISSN all agree with the official record. The one stored figure that is plainly out of date is the h-index of 3, for the reasons given under Metrics below.
Focus and Scope in Detail
The journal's own focus-and-scope statement is the authoritative description, and this profile follows it closely. Jurnal Presipitasi publishes research articles and review articles in environmental science and engineering that have not been published elsewhere, and it accepts only original articles that are not under submission to other journals. Its named scope areas are: environmental health and occupational safety; environmental technology and engineering; environmental accounting; conservation and energy efficiency; green infrastructure; environment and sustainable development; and urban development and the rural environment.
Translated into the work that actually fills its issues, that scope covers water supply and water quality; wastewater collection and treatment, including adsorbent and treatment-technology studies such as work on wastewater from the palm-oil industry; solid-waste collection, processing and management; air pollution measurement and control, as in a Semarang study relating traffic conditions and meteorology to sulphur dioxide concentrations at road junctions; drainage, flooding and urban water infrastructure; groundwater assessment, as in a water-quality-index study of the Sumowono groundwater basin across Temanggung, Kendal and Semarang regencies, testing suitability for drinking water and irrigation; environmental health and workplace safety; and the planning, accounting and sustainability dimensions of all of the above. The DOAJ record's keyword summary — water, wastewater, solid waste, air pollution, environmental engineering — is a compact and accurate version of the same territory, classified in the Library of Congress scheme under environmental technology and sanitary engineering.
The journal's article sections, per its own policies, are Review Article, Original Research Article, a section for the International Conference on Public Health — Tropical and Coastal Development (ICOPH-TCD), and Regional Case Study. That last section is characteristic and worth an author's attention: a well-documented single-place study — a city's drainage system, a basin's groundwater, a district's waste system — is an explicitly welcomed contribution type here, provided it is written so that readers elsewhere can learn from it, rather than being treated, as it might be at a general international journal, as too local to publish. The regional case study is, in effect, the journal's signature format, and its Semarang and Central Java studies are the clearest example of it.
Out-of-scope work can also be described plainly. Purely clinical medicine, purely chemical or materials research with no environmental application, civil-engineering studies with no environmental dimension, and policy commentary with no research or review substance do not match the stated scope. Manuscripts in Bahasa Indonesia submitted now will be declined at the initial stage, however good the research, because the language policy is explicit. And simultaneous submission elsewhere is prohibited by the journal's own statement, as is republication of work published elsewhere.
Editorial Process, Peer Review and Ethics
The journal's editorial policies describe a conventional, clearly documented process. Every manuscript must adhere to the focus and scope and to the author guidelines, and must demonstrate scientific merit and novelty. Manuscripts are evaluated through single-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers; reviewers remain anonymous. Reviewers are asked to judge originality and significance, the novelty of the theoretical approach and problem discussion, the strengths and weaknesses of the methodology, the reliability of the results and conclusions, and compliance with formatting guidelines, and to give detailed, constructive comments that form the basis of the editorial decision. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision to accept or reject, in consultation with the editorial board and, in the journal's fuller wording, together with the associate editor, taking the reviewers' critical comments into account. Reviewers must keep manuscripts confidential, must not use material from them for personal advantage, and must withdraw when they have conflicts of interest; editors must not disclose manuscript information beyond the author, reviewers and publisher, and must evaluate manuscripts on academic merit alone.
The author-side duties in the same policies are equally specific, and prospective authors should read them as submission requirements, not decoration. Authors must present an accurate account of the research and an objective discussion of its significance; underlying data must be represented accurately and in enough detail for others to replicate the work; work must be entirely original, with the work and words of others properly cited; the same research must not be submitted to more than one journal at once or published redundantly; conflicts of interest must be notified to the journal; and authors may be asked to provide raw data for editorial review and should be prepared to retain it for a reasonable period after publication. For research involving human subjects, the policies require institutional review board approval, adherence to recognised standards such as the Declaration of Helsinki, informed consent, protection of participant confidentiality and anonymity, parental or guardian consent for children, and consent for publication where participant information appears. Studies involving confidential business or market data must justify the use of that data and explain how it will be protected.
Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically accurate English, and authors whose first language is not English are encouraged by the journal to have their manuscripts reviewed for grammar and clarity before submission. Given the journal's own history — it translated accepted Bahasa Indonesia articles into English editorially until the 2021 changeover, then closed that route — the English requirement is best understood as part of its internationalisation strategy, and a manuscript whose English obscures its methods or results risks an early return regardless of the quality of the underlying fieldwork or experiments.
Open Access, Charges, Licensing and Archiving
Jurnal Presipitasi provides immediate open access to its content, on the principle, stated in its policies, that making research freely available supports a wider global exchange of knowledge and increases the visibility and citability of published work. All articles are licensed CC BY-SA 4.0, so anyone may share and adapt an article, including commercially, provided the authors are credited and the adapted material is shared under the same licence terms. The journal uses the LOCKSS system to build a distributed archiving arrangement among participating libraries, intended to preserve and, if needed, restore journal content over the long term — a point worth noting, because preservation arrangements are exactly the kind of detail that separates a durable journal record from a website that can vanish with a server change.
On charges, the journal's editorial policies state the position directly: authors are required to pay an article processing charge of IDR 1,500,000 per accepted manuscript; payment is by bank transfer, the corresponding author receives instructions and an invoice, the editorial office issues a receipt after payment is confirmed, and accepted articles are not published until the charge has been paid. The DOAJ record independently gives the same maximum figure, IDR 1,500,000, which is a good consistency check. The university's journal listing adds that manuscripts including a non-Indonesian author may be eligible for a waiver — a detail stated in the listing's summary of the journal rather than spelled out in the policies text read for this profile, so an international author team should confirm eligibility with the editorial office before relying on it. Older third-party summaries claiming the journal charges no publication fee are out of date against the journal's own current policies and should not be relied on.
Copyright practice, as shown on the journal's article pages, is that authors transfer copyright in an accepted article to Jurnal Presipitasi / Diponegoro University as publisher through a Copyright Transfer Agreement, while the CC BY-SA licence governs how readers and reusers may use the published work. Authors planning to reuse their own figures or text in later work, theses or teaching materials should keep their accepted manuscript and the agreement they signed, and check the licence terms, which are generous for reuse with attribution and share-alike conditions.
Metrics and Indexing: Reading a Rising Journal's Numbers
The bibliometric figures verified for this profile come from OpenAlex, resolved through the ISSN endpoint and then read directly from the exact source record (OpenAlex source S4210194923, whose registered name is the journal's full Indonesian title). That record gives: 577 works, 1,047 citations, an h-index of 12, an i10-index of 20 and a two-year mean citedness of about 0.28, with Diponegoro University as host organisation, Indonesia as country, and the official journal site as homepage. Its yearly counts show substantial recent volume — 76 works counted for 2024, 80 for 2025 and 33 already for 2026 in the record as read — and its machine-generated topics centre on waste management and recycling, wastewater treatment and reuse, water and wastewater treatment, and water quality and pollution assessment, all squarely inside the journal's stated scope.
Set against the Journals World template's h-index of 3 and the journal's own announcement of SJR 0.138 (2025, Q4), the OpenAlex h-index of 12 looks like a disagreement, but it is better read as three different instruments measuring three different things. SCImago's SJR is a prestige-weighted, Scopus-based measure over a defined window and the journal has only recently entered that system; its Q4 placement in a first SCImago appearance, announced by the journal in 2026, is a starting position, not a verdict on its national standing, which SINTA expresses instead with its top grade. OpenAlex counts a much wider citation universe and a longer back catalogue reaching back to 2006, which is why its h-index is higher. The older h-index of 3 in stored template data reflects the smaller, older snapshot from which that template was generated. A prospective author should report each figure with its source and date, and should not average them or quote the largest as if it were the only truth.
On indexing lists: the university listing states indexing in Scopus, DOAJ, SINTA and Google Scholar. The DOAJ claim was verified directly for this profile through the DOAJ search API: a search by the print ISSN returned the journal's DOAJ record, naming Diponegoro University as publisher, the IDR 1,500,000 charge, the CC BY-SA licence and single anonymous peer review. A search by the electronic ISSN alone returned no result in the same API calls — an identifier-indexing quirk in how the record is stored, not evidence against the listing, since the record itself was retrieved. The Scopus claim is supported indirectly by the journal's official SCImago announcement, which depends on Scopus data and links to its SCImago source page. Acceptance timelines and an acceptance rate are not published in the sources verified for this profile, so both are not publicly disclosed here; a third-party summary's claim of an average of about twelve weeks from submission to publication could not be verified against the journal's own pages and is therefore not presented as the journal's figure.
Who Should Publish Here
The ideal contributor is an environmental scientist, environmental engineer or allied researcher whose work answers a concrete environmental problem with data — measurements, models, field studies, treatment experiments, system evaluations or well-built reviews — and who values an accredited Indonesian journal that now publishes in English, is open access under a share-alike licence, and has entered the Scopus/SCImago system. Indonesian authors gain a venue whose SINTA standing counts in their national research system; authors elsewhere in tropical and rapidly urbanising settings gain a journal that explicitly welcomes regional case studies of the kind general journals often undervalue, and that actively courts international participation, including through the waiver possibility noted above. Practitioners in municipal government, utilities and environmental consultancies whose studies are genuinely research-grade — a drainage evaluation, a waste-system study, a groundwater assessment — are also within the journal's community, as its case-study section shows.
Authors should look elsewhere, or first do more work, if their manuscript is not yet in publishable English, if it reports no original data or review synthesis, if its environmental connection is nominal, or if they cannot pay the stated charge and have not confirmed a waiver. They should also plan around the three-issue calendar — March, July and November, with a stated cap of 25 articles per issue — rather than assuming continuous publication, and should follow the journal's current author guidelines and template exactly, since formatting compliance is one of the stated review criteria. Finally, they should submit through the journal's official site at Diponegoro University and keep their correspondence, transfer agreement and charge receipt together, as they would for any journal where they hold career-relevant publications.
