Choose a course before a college
Oxford’s undergraduate directory includes single and joint courses. Selected examples include Engineering Science, Computer Science, Law, Medicine, English, History, Physics, Economics and Management, and Philosophy, Politics and Economics. The joint-course combinations are defined by the university; applicants cannot freely combine any two subjects.

Start with required subjects and the syllabus, then check which colleges offer the course. Compare compulsory papers, laboratory or written work, assessment and the final qualification. A familiar subject title can hide a very different balance of theory and practical work. Graduate applicants should use the separate graduate course directory.

Choose your course and college, or make an open application, and organise your academic reference. Course-specific tests may include a UAT-UK test, UCAT for Medicine or LNAT for Law. Test registration and sitting arrangements are separate from submitting UCAS.

Build a checklist from the exact course page: qualification equivalence, required subjects, grades, any written work and tests. A deadline for written work is not an extension of the UCAS deadline. Ask your school for its internal submission date as well.
Tuition and living costs for 2027–28
Oxford’s published Home undergraduate annual fee for 2027–28 is £10,050. Overseas fees depend on the course and should be checked against the relevant entry-year page; Home fees should not be used as an international estimate.

The living-cost range is for a single full-time student without dependants. It is separate from tuition. Your college, lifestyle and number of months in Oxford affect the actual amount. The university suggests considering a nine-month budget even though teaching is arranged in shorter terms. Add travel, arrival costs and any applicable immigration charges separately.

Funding depends on your circumstances
Oxford describes government tuition and maintenance support for eligible UK students alongside university and college support. Its 2027-entry guidance lists an Oxford Bursary for qualifying first-degree UK students with household income below £50,000 who do not receive a Crankstart Scholarship. The stated maximum is £4,480 annually. Other targeted support has separate conditions.

Do not assume that a UK funding scheme applies to an Overseas applicant. Record each award’s nationality or residency rules, eligible courses, application deadline, payment dates and renewal conditions. Budget from confirmed support rather than the largest scholarship advertised.
College accommodation and daily life
Oxford offers college accommodation to first-year undergraduates and at least one further year. Some colleges offer it for the entire degree. Rooms may be on the main college site or in an annexe. Private renting can require a full-year contract, so compare total contract costs rather than just weekly rent.

- Check the journey between your room, department and library.
- Ask about vacation residence, storage and meal charges.
- Discuss accessibility needs and room arrangements early.
- Check when any move into private accommodation would be necessary.
Make an informed Oxford shortlist
Use the same questions for each course you compare: What must I study? How will I be assessed? What practical or research work can I pursue? What would the full degree cost if fees and living expenses rise? A university-wide ranking cannot answer these course-level questions.
For a visit or online information session, bring two or three specific questions from the current syllabus. Ask how feedback works, how students access library or laboratory resources, and how a student can prepare for final-year work. These are planning prompts, not promises of a particular placement or research award.
Keep copies of the course requirements and fee information you used, including their entry year. If an old college page conflicts with the current central admissions timeline, request clarification before acting.
